Yamaguchi: PM Abe true to previous administrations on war, ‘comfort women’

October 19, 2013: New Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi met with reporters following his question and answer session with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the plenary session of the House of Councillors held on Friday, October 18, and issued an official statement.
In it, Yamaguchi said that the prime minister’s stand on Japanese belligerence against other countries in World War II as well as on the forced prostitution of ‘comfort women’ was consistent with previous administrations. Yamaguchi added that given Abe’s position on these issues, it was the responsibility of Abe and his government, working together with coalition partner New Komeito, to reach out to those countries victimized by Japanese aggression to improve relations.
He also praised Abe’s decision not to visit Yasukuni Shrine, where Class-A war criminals are enshrined, at this time. With this as a first step, Yamaguchi said, additional steps should be taken to improve strained ties with China and South Korea.

英語版では、“the forced prostitution of ‘comfort women”とか“ to reach out to those countries victimized by Japanese aggression to improve relations.”とかかなり踏み込んだ表現をしていますが、日本語になると以下の通りふぬけています。

公明党の山口那津男代表は18日昼、参院本会議での代表質問を終え、国会内で記者団に対し、大要次のような見解を述べた。
一、（首相の答弁について）歴史認識や従軍慰安婦の問題に、自身の言葉で思いを語ったところが印象的だった。歴史認識は歴代内閣の見解を引き継ぎ、慰安婦問題も歴代首相の認識と同じであるとされた。それらを踏まえ、関係国に丁寧に説明していく姿勢は共有できた。
一、（特定秘密保護法案について）公明党の幾多の修正（提案）を、政府がほぼ認めたと思っている。関連する公文書管理法の改正について、首相が法案を国会に提出する決意を述べられたことは極めて大きい判断だ。
一、（首相の靖国参拝見送りについて）さまざまな観点から配慮しながら、賢明な選択をされたと思う。今回のような慎重な姿勢は外交上の摩擦を避ける方向に行くだろう。今後、（中韓との）関係改善が進むよう、首相の配慮を生かしていくべきだ。

“the forced prostitution of ‘comfort women”は従軍慰安婦の問題、“ to reach out to those countries victimized by Japanese aggression to improve relations.”は歴史認識、という程度の表現になっています。
というより、元の発言が日本語だったはずですから、英語版では踏み込んだ表現にして海外向けにアピールしているのでしょうね。まあ、こういう小ずるいことができないと政治屋はやってられないのかも知れませんけどね。
